Islamic Architecture is a calm movement, has the clarity of limitation, is humble and natural in terms of expression.

Prince Island, where the project area is located, is in a special position in many respects. Since the past, it has had a strong urban image with its geographical characteristics, historical stratification and development of its socio-cultural structure.

The island, which is known to have a settlement culture from the Byzantine Period, has diversified and took its present form as the demographic structure started to develop as a summer resort since the middle of the nineteenth century. It has been moved today.

Religious criteria

Unfortunately, the criteria that have no agenda or are the least agenda in the design of the mosque, unfortunately, are perhaps religious criteria. Users, designers, employers, in short, all actors who take charge from the design of the mosque to the completion of its construction may not see themselves as the addressees of the fiqh of the mosque's architecture.

Mosque architecture

For example, the mosque is not a popular architectural design object. Museum users do not need to go to the museum 5 times a day or on certain days of the week.

Urban Dimension

If the Prince Island Mosque project is built, it will be the largest mosque in Adalar district with this square meter data. This means that this mosque will be the Princes' Mosque Friday. In this sense, it is appropriate to have the mosque in the bazaar.

The Project Area is located in front of the natural limiting city element, the sea line, and the parcel is adjacent to the green area band determined at this point.

In the determination of the general settlement decisions, the interpretation of the traditional settlement setup and development of the mosque was considered important, the entrance was provided with a semi-open slit. This decision constitutes the main backbone of the hierarchy of use. It is aimed to provide a continuous integration of the specific building with the street, which is mostly in pedestrian use.

Needs program and land data

The needs program is very compelling for this plot. A great effort has been made to provide the desired square meters. In fact, the zigzag movement that gives character to the front is an evaluation move consisting of the spread of the ranks to the plot with the least possible loss.

Subject and location of the project

The area allocated by the Directorate of Religious Affairs to the Istanbul Provincial Mufti to be built as a mosque; It is the work of obtaining an architectural idea project of a mosque that will meet the worship need of the people of the Island, in the east direction of Büyükada Pier, where the old AYEDAŞ business building and its cash desk are located.

Purpose of the project

The purpose of the Büyükada Çarşı Mosque Architectural Idea Project is to obtain an original project that will complement the social, cultural and architectural fabric of Büyükada. For this purpose, it is the main goal to bring a worship house that is suitable for the needs of the island, contributing to the silhouette, utilizing environmentalist technologies and engineering solutions, promoting architecture and fine arts, and taking into account the cultural continuity of the architectural architecture.

Island information

The oldest of the four mosques in Buyukada is Buyukada Hamidiye Mosque, which was built in 1895. Nizam Mosque was built in 1967 and Kumsal Mosque was built in 1985. Hacı Havva Özen Mosque, which was opened to worship last and started to be used as a mosque by a philanthropist in 1986 after the conversion of an apartment building, is physically insufficient and does not respond to the need.

This integration is handled in the direction of use diversity in the project area, and an open view terrace is constructed above the toilets open to external use.

Considering the island’s microclimatic properties, the building pursues the search for sustainable natural lighting-ventilation facilities as much as possible. In this context, window openings were created in the main worship area at +1 level and additional worship area was created, and the perception of the qibla in the place of worship for the upper crust of the building. The skylight that strengthens is designed.

While the main worship area creates a symmetrical and central interior volume, natural stone bricks are provided as building material. It was decided by considering the acoustic and thermal values of the material.
